Celebrating The Tubman Museum's Second Anniversary
Dear Tubman members and supporters,

Join us this month as we celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of the new Tubman Museum on Cherry Street in downtown Macon!

It’s been an incredible first two years — with fantastic new exhibits, family and children’s programs, concerts, and special community events and performances both inside and outside the Museum.
And there are more exciting things to come, including monthly evening events for adults, a new James Hyde Porter Community Exhibit Gallery and a Cultural and Performing Arts Center on the second floor of the Museum. Become a Tubman member this month and enjoy all of these programs and offerings plus free admission to the museum and discounts in our store and on ticketed events.

Here’s what’s coming up this month in celebration of our second anniversary:
Community Drum Circle (April 8) – join Master drummers Brother Kwame and Wes Stephens in learning the styles and rhythms of African drumming (West African drums provided). 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

“A Continental Gesture” and Tubman Membership Raffle (April 15) – see and test drive the new Lincoln Continental at the Tubman Museum and help raise funds for the Museum’s educational programs through Lincoln’s “Driven to Give” program. Also, purchase a Tubman membership or renew your existing membership at the museum, over the phone, or on the Tubman website on April 15 and you’ll be eligible for a special prize drawing for new members. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Chi Ezekwueche Volunteer Appreciation Banquet (April 21) – enjoy this black-tie event at the Tubman with great food and live music and help us honor our wonderful Tubman Museum volunteers, including five dedicated volunteers – Shirley Lester, Ronnie Miley, Pat Person, James Singleton and Kay Stephens – who will be receiving a Medal of Service for their extraordinary contributions to the Museum. 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.

21st Annual Pan African Festival of Georgia (April 29-30) – explore and celebrate the worldwide impact of African culture as expressed in music, dance, food, art and film. Enjoy free live concerts and performances and a busy Festival marketplace of vendors on the Cherry Street Plaza and dance and drumming workshops, storytelling, children’s activities, and wonderful exhibits inside the Museum.
Founded in 1981 and named for Harriet Tubman, the “Black Moses” who led hundreds of slaves to freedom, the Museum fulfills its mission through diverse permanent and changing exhibitions, innovative educational programming, cutting edge technology, print and digital publications, festivals, lectures, concerts, and a host of special events throughout the year.
